‘Free Call’ feature is currently available only in Japan. All other regional users can only answer calls. We are planning to support more regions soon.
 

In order to prevent spams, we do not allow virtual numbers, internet phone numbers, etc.

KakaoTalk is a downloadable software application for mobile devices that allows its users to send and receive messages including photos, videos, voice messages, URL links, and contact information, both on a one-to-one basis and in groups, all for free.  To use the application, you only need to enter your phone number without registering or logging-in.

Kakao account is a way to identify you from others by using email address as an ID. You can bring your previous data in case of device or mobile number change. To connect to Kakao account, go to “More”.

The data you can bring via Kakao account:
Friends list, Friends recommendation list, Hidden friends list, Blocked list, KakaoTalk ID, Profile image, and Status message

(Your friends can see your name as they saved if you do not know their phone numbers.)

* caution : Kakao account is used in only one mobile number.

- You cannot use two different phone numbers with one Kakao account simultaneously. If you connect to same Kakao account with different phone number, the previous KakaoTalk service will be deleted.
- If you change your phone number and then connect to same Kakao account through the new verification process, the previous KakaoTalk service will be deleted.

KakaoTalk's free call feature is a mVoIP feature that enables users to call each other once the connection has been established in the chatroom. (Call quality will be better when used in WiFi. When used in 3G network, you might incur operator data charges or internet access fees. KakaoTalk does not require any additional “in application” purchase.) 

Tab on "Free Call" button on the mini profile of the friend you wish to call, or tab on "Request Free Call" button after tapping on the "+" button in a 1:1 chat room. 

Since our calling feature requires to use microphone, it is not possible to take pictures, videos, or voice note while a call. However, it is possible to send pictures or videos in the photo album, and play videos or voice notes on your device while in a call. 

Our calling feature lets users to talk in chatrooms, so all requests come as push alerts. Before calling, try sending a message to the person you wish to call. 

KakaoTlak's calling freature can sometimes get disconnected if your network or your friend’s network is unstable. If you are moving or if the network that you are connected to is weak, the quality of the call may drop. We recommend to call in WiFi for the best performance.  

KakaoTalk's calling feature is available on 2.8.0 (Android OS 2.0 or higher) and 2.9.0 (iOS) or higher version of KakaoTalk. Please note that this feature may not work on some Android devices. 

By using an earphone with microphone, you can experience better call quality. However, you must use an earphone that is manufactured by the device manufacturer. Please be aware that earphones manufactured by different manufacturer might not work with the device you are using. 

Once your call has been connected, the voice filter buttons will appear on the top of the chat room. Choose between alien and monster voice and speak to deliver a filtered voice to your friend.

Group Call is a mVoIP-based service which allows 3 to 5 friends to engage in free-call in a group chat room.
Group Call is provided to users and their chat partners who use iOS KakaoTalk version 3.2.0 or Android KakaoTalk version 3.5.1 or above.
If your device does not have an imbedded microphone (ex. iPod Touch), then please use an earphone that has a microphone.

(More stable service is provided if you use WiFi connection. You may be charged with a data fee in a 3G or 4G environment.
Data fees may differ depending on the service provider. Please contact your service provider for further information.) 

When KakaoTalk is running in the background, you will be able to receive alert pop ups. Please verify that KakaoTalk is running the background if you are not recieveing message alerts. When a new message arrives, you will be notified by an icon in the upper notification bar.

Group Call may not be available in the following situations;
- If you use a KakaoTalk version that does not support Group Call (Android 3.5.1 or above, iPhone 3.2.0 or above)
- Group Call connection or quality of the connection may be poor if you or your chat partner's device or network status is in poor condition.

While in the "Find" tab, press the menu button on your phone.

Then press "Find" to search for a friend using his/her KakaoTalk ID.

A KakaoTalk ID is a way to identify you from others without revealing your phone number. You can add people to your friends list if you know their IDs without having to know their phone numbers.

Go to "Friends" tab and hit menu button on your phone. Press "Edit" , then "Hide" button. To not receive any messages from the  person,  go to "Manga Friends" > "Hidden Friends" and click "Manage" button. 

You can block a person in the "Friends?"tab by tapping the mini-profile.

If you want to unblock the blocked person, go to "Blocked" to undo the process.

Go to "Friends" tab and hit menu button on your phone. 'Edit' lets you hide selected friend from friends list. (You will still receive messages from hidden friends.)

You may unhide hidden friends from 'Manage Friends' > 'Hidden Friends'.  

Go to "Friends?" tab and hit menu button on your phone, then click 'Edit'. There you will be able to delete recommended friends. Deleted person will be permantently deleted from "Friends?" tab. 

Go to  "More" and choose "My Profile" to change your status message.

KakaoTalk allows users to set close friends as "Favorites". To add a friend to your "Favorites", press the star icon in your friend's miniprofile. Similarily, to delete a friend from your "Favorites", press the star icon in your friend's miniprofile. 

1. With your previous KakaoTalk, go to "More" tab > "Settings" > “Delete KakaoTalk”. Then go through the verification process with your new number.

If you delete KakaoTalk, all data (friends, list, chat history, ID) associated with it will be deleted. To save your friends list go to “Manage Friends” under “Settings” and press “Export Friends List”.
To save your chat history, press the menu button on your phone when you are in a chat room and press “More”. Then press “Export” to save the chat’s history.

* You can bring your previous data if you connect to Kakao account in “More” tab. (To save your chat history, press the menu button on your phone when you are in a chat room and press “More”. Then press “Export” to save the chat’s history.)

2. You should inform your KakaoTalk friends of your new number, so that they can save it in their own phones.

* If you do not delete your previous KakaoTalk, it will stay up, and we cannot delete it for you.

- If you do not delete your previous KakaoTalk, the below may occur –

1) Your friends may still have your previous number in their friends list, and can mistakenly send messages to your previous number.
2) If someone else starts using your old number, your friends’ messages may mistakenly be sent to him/her.

Go to "Friends" tab and press menu button on your phone. Then press "More" > "Tell a Friend"  to share a KakaoTalk download link with your friends via SMS message, E-mail, Twitter, and Facebook.

Open the "chats" tab and then press the "menu" button on your phone. After pressing "new", choose the people you want to chat with.

You can group chat by selecting multiple friends on the list.

Press the menu button on your phone while you are in the chat room. By pressing "Invite", you will be brought to your list of friends where you can choose friends to invite. By selecting certain friends, they will be added to the chat room.

Click the person's profile picture and his/her mini-profile will appear.

By pressing the "Add" button, he/she will be added to your friends list.

That is the number of your friends who have not yet read the message you sent. When all of your friends have checked the message, the number will disappear.

Go to "More" tab and press the menu button on your phone. Then press 'Setting' > 'Export/Import'> 'Export Friends List'.

Click "Import Friends List" to import the previously exported friends list and add it to your current friends list. 

If you want to save your previous chat dialogue, press the menu button on your phone in the chat room, and then press "More". By selecting "Export" you can "Send Text Only", "Send All Messages", or "Save in SD Card". 

Phone calls are not free and will be charged according to your service plan with telecom operators you subscribe to.  KakaoTalk merely enables you to call without having to dial your friend's number.

You can use KakaoTalk with overseas phone numbers.  Please check that the country code is correct, then enter your phone number (without entering the country code), and then go through the SMS verification process. If the default country code is not correct, choose the correct country and the respective code will appear at the top of the page.

If you have Wi-Fi connection, chatting is free of charge. Otherwise, you will be charged according to your "Roaming" data service rate.

Loading can get slower if you have many unread chatting lists or messages. It is best to first open all unread chatting lists and view unread messages, and then leave chatting lists that you have finished with. After doing so the loading will become considerably faster.

1. Message alerts are not delivered if you are not connected to the network. Please check that your phone is properly connected to the network.

2. Go to "More" tab > "Settings" > "Message Alerts". Make sure "Message Alert" is checked, or else you will not be alerted of new messages.

1. Go to the "chats" tab and press the menu button on your phone. Then press "Edit", and press "Leave" from the chat rooms you do not want to receive alerts from. 

2. Press the menu button on your phone in the chat room you do not want to receive alerts from and press "Leave".

Press the menu button on your phone in a group chat and select "More". By unchecking "Alert Option", you will no longer receive alerts from the group chat. 

If you decide to opt out of the alert option, it will be indicated at the top right of the chat room.

Furthermore, if you decide to opt out of the alert option, it will be indicated in the chat room list.

If you change your mind and would like to receive alerts, you need to recheck "Alert Option"

Go to "More" tab > Settings > Message Alerts and uncheck "Alert for New Group Chat" to no longer receive alerts from newly created group chats.

Select "My Profile" under "More" tab and uncheck "My ID subject to Search". By doing this, your ID will not be exposed to a third party's search.

You can delete or re-send the message by clicking the red exclaimation point icon on the left side of the message.

Press the menu button on your phone in a chat room and select "More". By selecting "Delete Chats", you will delete all chat records in the room.

Delete KakaoTalk will delete the account and all data associated with the account including phone numbers, friends list, and past chatting history. Chatting will no longer be available and deleted data will not be restored even after reinstallation.

Delete and re-install KakaoTalk.  Note that you will not be able to restore data associated with your previous account.

You can send pictures, videos, voice messages, URL links, and contact information from your Android address book. Voice messages have to be under 40 seconds, and videos have to be under 20 MB. We are working to include maps and many other types of multimedia in later versions of KakaoTalk. 

1. Please check that you have entered your phone number correctly. When entering your phone number, you need to enter your cell phone number, omitting the nation code.

2. Depending on telecom operators in certain countries or regions, it may take a while for you to receive your SMS verification number. If the verification number does not come after 24 hours, please contact us through our website or via email.

You can use KakaoTalk on Android OS1.6 or later versions. NexusOne OS2.1 users may not be able to receive message alerts during sleep mode while using WiFi. Users can avoid problems by updating to the latest Android OS.
