  1. Kakao temporarily disables your account after 1 year of inactivity for security purposes. 

    You will get a notification of account inactivity to your Kakao Account email one month before the account is disabled.

    If you don't want to have your Kakao Account disabled, please log into any Kakao Services with your Kakao Account on your mobile, or via our homepage. 

  2. Kakao's policy on account inactivity was implemented in accordance with the Expiration System of Personal Information, under which personal information of long-time inactive users are discarded or stored safely to minimize the storage of unnecessary personal information and to reduce the risk of leakage. 

    Personal information is to be discarded or stored safely after one year of inactivity pursuant to Article 16 of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, Etc.

  3. Once your account is disabled, your personal information will be stored safely in accordance with the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, Etc.

    You will have to go through email verification to reactivate your Kakao Account. 

    If you are still inactive 4 years after your account has been disabled, all your data and personal information will be deleted along with your Kakao Account. 

  4. It is likely that someone may have accidentally entered your email to create a Kakao Account, or the email address may have been used by another person previously.

    Check the Kakao Account profile or the sign up date during the Kakao Account password reset process.
    If the Kakao Account is not yours, please click the link at the bottom of the login notification email "Is this NOT your account?" and contact our Customer Service. 

  5. If you have signed up for multiple Kakao Accounts, those that are not active can be disabled. 

    Please check the email address for your Kakao Account that is frequently used. 

    The Kakao Account linked to your Kakao Talk can be found in Kakao Talk > More > Settings > Kakao Account.

  6. You have to go through email verification to reactivate your Kakao Account.

    If you are unable to receive emails to your Kakao Account email address, please contact our Customer Service with the following information:

    - Kakao Account email address
    - Reason you are unable to receive the verification email
    - Phone number used to sign up for Kakao Talk
    - Kakao Story profile name
    - Kakao services you have used

    If the above information match your Kakao Account information, we will be able to help you reactivate your Kakao Account with a new email address after receiving required documents including the certificate of use agreement issued by your mobile service carrier.

    Please note that if the information you have provided do not match your Kakao Account information, you cannot reactivate your Kakao Account or change your email.

  7. If you forgot your Kakao Account password, you can change your password after going through email verification by clicking the link below.


    * From Kakao Talk or Kakao Story app > Click "Forgot your email or password?" > Select "Reset Password" > Enter email address and reset password
    * On https://accounts.kakao.com or https://story.kakao.com: Click "Find Password" at the bottom of the webpage

    If your account has already been disabled, it will be reactivated once password reset is completed.
    If you received a notification of account inactivity, or if your Kakao Account has not been disabled yet, you have to log in with your Kakao Account after password reset is completed to make sure your account is not disabled on the scheduled account disabled date.

    To reset your password, you have to provide the previously-verified phone number or pass security questions for user identification.

  8. Kakao temporarily disables your account after 1 year of inactivity for security purposes pursuant to Article 16 (Expiration System of Personal Information) of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, Etc.

    Once your account is disabled, your personal information such as profile photos and birthdate will be stored safely or deleted, and the account is marked as inactive.
    However, posts and comments on the Internet which are intended to make public will remain visible even after the account becomes inactive.

    If you can't find your email address used for your Kakao Accounts which is marked as inactive, please check if you have received a notification of account inactivity from Kakao in your email inbox.
    Kakao sends a notification of account inactivity to the user's Kakao Account email one month before the account is disabled.

    If you can't find such an email in your inbox, please fill out the following information as much as you can. We will tell you a part of your email address matching the information you have provided.

    - Phone number used to sign up for Kakao Talk
    - Kakao Story profile name
    - Kakao services you have used

    Please note that if the information you have provided do not match your Kakao Account information, we are unable to tell you what your Kakao Account email is.

  9. In accordance to the Kakao Account dormancy policy,
    an account that has been restricted for use and have not been used for more than a year, is switched to a dormant state. In this case, the KakaoTalk connected to this Kakao Account is automatically withdrawn.

    You will be notified of the scheduled transition to dormancy, 30 days in advance via email or mobile.
    Once the account is switched to a dormant state, if you do not login to the Kakao service after lifting the restrictions for use in the next 4 years, the Kakao Account will be withdrawn.

    When the Kakao Account is withdrawn, the contract for use of the Kakao services for this account will be terminated and you will no longer be able to use the account.
    Moreover, the Kakao Account information and individual service data used with the Kakao Account will be deleted.
